Bradley Viaduct was constructed by the Midland Railway and opened in 1910 on their ‘Extension’ from Mirfield to Newtown Goods Yard at Huddersfield. Although planned as a two track line, only a single line was laid.
Following the London Midland & Scottish Railway’s construction at Red Doles in 1923 of a junction to the existing Huddersfield to Spen Valley and Heaton Lodge Junctions line, the single line between Red Doles and Mirfield was hardly ever used and was closed in 1937.
